A friend of mine gifted me with a spool of metallic flaked PETG to print up a few figures for him. This was several months back. I got one good print from it of a Deathclaw (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1313334) and since then I've been avoiding using it because of continual bad prints. I decided yesterday to give it another shot cuz I don't want a kilo of this stuff going to waste.
Apr 04, 2017 QIDI Tech 1 Dual Extruder 3D Printer Review: Top Choice 2017. If you’re new to the world of 3D printing and want a durable machine which produces high quality prints using either PLA or ABS filament and you like the idea of multi colored prints, then you should definitely consider the QIDI Tech 1 Dual Extruder 3D printer.
Initially, I was getting rough prints and PITA support removal, but it's gotten worse. When I begin a print, the initial front extrude (the brim) lays down fine, but as soon as it starts laying down the object, I hear clicking as if the extruder gears are slipping and nothing wants to stick to the build plate. Eventually the nozzle gums up and I have to disassemble the print head to clean it out.
Qidi Tech Printer Software
Things I've tried to fix the problem:
- re-level the build plate
- slow the print down (tried between 15mm p/sec and 40)
- change the nozzle temp (tried between 230 and 250)
- offset the z-axis (by as much as .2mm)
I don't believe it to be the model I'm trying to print because I've tried several including the basic 20mm cube. Unless the temp and speed are hard wired for the first brim, I don't suspect it's either of those settings, since that lays down fine every time. I'm almost certain it's not the bed level either because my ABS prints (on the right right nozzle) come out great. If anyone has had a pleasant experience with this material, I'd love to take a look at your settings. I'm using makerbot desktop, but any program's general settings might be helpful.
The only thing I haven't tried is feeding the PETG through the other nozzle, but I need to get some things printed before work tomorrow prior to troublehsooting further.
If you are still working with the original PLA and ABS that came with your QiDI rather than printing carbon fiber or sandstone, then yes, your nozzles should certainly last more than 2 months. Are both nozzles clogged now?
Usually Qidi is quite responsive, particularly Emily. That's [email protected] Do keep in mind they are 12 hours ahead from EDT USA.

If you have any extruder floss or other .4mm metal nozzle drill or something that's <0.4mm diameter you could use to clear a path thru the nozzle, then it's time to do that.

If the plastic part you are referring to is the PTFE tube that lives inside the throat of the extruder all the way down into the nozzle, then yes it is certainly needed and is easily replaceable. It should not be bulging in the middle. The PTFE tube is just 4mm OD and 2mm ID teflon tubing available on Amazon or ebay, like: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CUPV9KC
